Daddy's Boots: Not Made for Walkin'

Abby Kate knows what "shoes" and "socks" are and can say the words better than most others. So when she saw Daddy's BIG pilot shoes, I don't think she could resist trying them on. After getting all the way in - with the boots up to her booty (sorry, couldn't resist) - she wasn't so sure about them anymore. I think she was wondering why they didn't 'walk.' (Click the image for a better view.)

As for Daddy, he can certainly walk in his boots as well as accomplish many other great things in them. On Thursday, he soloed at night for the first time. On Monday, he soloed in a 4-plane formation flight (flying a few feet away from his classmates and their instructor flying the other three planes). Next week, he will start practicing how to land on an aircraft carrier (except using a "carrier box" - or a painted area - on a runway instead of in the ocean). I can't imagine him landing a jet on a moving ship out in the ocean, but that's exactly what he'll be doing at the end of his training here (probably early June).

Although it's still stressful being graded everyday, Mike is having a lot of fun with this part of his training.

So cute! Tell Mike congrats for me! Form flights are my FAVORITE to watch! Patrick even gets a kick out of how entranced I become by it. I'm SOOOOOOOO hoping that you all get Prowlers when he gets his wings, as we'd love to have you out our way, but I'm probably just wishful thinking on that. My friend Jill's husband is a Marine Prowler pilot, and after he finishes the RAG, they will be moving to the Marine Prowler base in Cherry Hill, North Carolina. She said that the Marines are so full of Prowler guys down there right now, that there's not a place for her hubby for a while. She is so ready to get settled, but I told her that in a selfish way, I'm so glad to hear that they won't be leaving as soon as we thought! She's too fun to send away so soon! Hang in there, as carrier quals can be stressful, but he'll do great! You'll get the chance to go to the outlying field and watch him bounce a couple of weeks before he heads to the boat, and I HIGHLY recommend going to this--it's really cool! If there's ever anything that we could help you with or if you ever have any questions, we'd be more than happy to try to help!

WoW! Those boots look huge next to her! She's brave for trying them on. :) Great pictures Casey, and good luck to Mike!
